Professional Profile: Kurt Marin 2014

  • Title: Senior Project Manager
  • Company: MKDA
  • Location: New York, NY
  • Birthplace: Cheverly, MD

Education: B.S in Architecture, Georgia Institute of Technology

First job outside of real estate: An ice cream shop – scooping deserts.

First job in real estate or allied field: Draftsman at an engineering firm in Atlanta.

What do you do now and what are you planning for the future? I am an interiors-focused senior architect and project manager working with clients in technology, advertising and apparel fields. I look forward to using my experiences to help mentor more junior staff and build a team that has fun together and does great work.

How do you unwind from a busy day in real estate? Living close enough to be able to walk to and from work gives me time to unwind and clear my thoughts. I also enjoy cooking in the evenings after work, it is very therapeutic and a different kind of creativity.

Favorite book or author: Kurt Vonnegut for combining a sharp wit with an absurdist critique of issues.

Favorite movie: “Young Frankenstein.” It makes me laugh every time I watch it, even though I know all the jokes and sight gags.

Last song you purchased/downloaded? The new Crystal Method album, “It’s got a good beat and you can dance to it.”

One word to describe your work environment: Spirited

Rules to live by in business: Remember to treat consultants, clients and others in the industry well, because in our industry you will likely be working with that person again, maybe in 20 years, and the roles may be reversed.

If you could invite one person to dinner (living or dead) who would it be and where would you go? Leonardo Da Vinci in his studio, with plenty of wine, of course!

What is your dream job? It would probably involve working at the beach somewhere.
